"People treat obese people different. It was like I was invisible. If they did notice me, it was instant rejection. I was alone, angry and bitter … not happy with who I was and that came out in my mothering skills, my relationship with my husband and with everybody else. Topping out at 340 pounds, I was miserable.
I'm a hairdresser and on my feet all day. Before the surgery, everything hurt - my knees, ankles, hips, feet. I would come home from work and collapse. It's so completely different now. I swim twice a week and run about 15 miles each week. In fact, I've run several marathons and a triathlon this year.
I went to the seminar at Parkwest Medical Center and had the surgery six months later. The best part is that weight loss is instant, which kept me encouraged. But I slimmed down slowly, over two years' time. In all, I lost 180 pounds and have maintained a healthy weight for a long time.
It's a total life-changing experience. I'm active and happy. All parts of my life have changed for the better."
